Gerhard Pfister
Gerhard Pfister, a politician from the canton of Zug, has taken on a new role as a literary critic. The Center Party member and National Council representative made his first appearance on SRF Literaturclub in March 2025. His background in academia and politics adds an unusual perspective to the programme’s discussions.
Pfister originally studied German literature and philosophy at the University of Fribourg. He later completed a doctorate at the University of Basel, specialising in the works of Austrian writer Peter Handke. Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher, instructing students in German and philosophy.
On 6 March 2025, Pfister joined *SRF Literaturclub* in Zurich as a new member of the critics’ panel. Since then, he has regularly shared his thoughts on books with the show’s audience. His political career runs parallel to his literary interests. As a National Council member for the Center Party, he balances legislative duties with his passion for literature.
Pfister now contributes to one of Switzerland’s most prominent literary programmes. His academic training and political experience shape his approach to book criticism. The SRF Literaturclub audience can expect his insights to reflect both scholarly depth and public engagement.
