There are group of people holding placards and walking. These are the trees. I can see small bushes. This is the banner. I can see a building with name boards attached to it. These look like cars. I think these are the current polls.

Gerlach official seeks re-election after losing a high-card tiebreaker in 2025

Carl Copek, incumbent in the Gerlach General Improvement District (GGID), has announced his bid for re-election next year. The GGID manages water, disposal, and sewer services for Gerlach residents. Copek's re-election bid comes after a unique tie-breaking process in the previous election.

In November 2025, Copek and Seth Schrenzel both received 67 votes, tying for third place in the race for the GGID Board of Directors. According to Nevada state law, tied candidates must determine the winner by lot. In an unusual twist, the tie was broken by a high-card draw, a method used in gambling decisions.

Schrenzel won the coin toss and drew a seven of diamonds, which beat Copek's five of clubs. This high-card draw method was used to place the fourth candidate on the board, as the winner of the card draw is not identified in available search results.

Copek, despite losing the tie-breaker, has decided to run again for the office next year. The upcoming election will give Gerlach residents another chance to vote for their preferred candidate to oversee the essential services provided by the GGID.
