German and African Municipalities Strengthen Ties at Historic Partnership Conference
The 6th Partnership Conference between German municipalities and sub-Saharan African counterparts concluded in Gießen, with around 180 participants from 18 African nations and Germany. The event, held every three years, is a key gathering for those engaged in German-African municipal cooperation. This year's host municipalities were Gießen, partnered with Swakopmund, Namibia, and the district of Gießen, partnered with Mubende, Uganda.
The conference, funded and organized by the Service Agency 'Communes in the One World', brought together representatives from 47 municipal partnerships. Among them were Helmut Maier and Markus Bischof from Aschaffenburg, who attended with their partners from Bo, Sierra Leone.
Engagement Global, a non-profit service provider for development initiatives, finances and organizes such events to support cooperation between German and partner municipalities. The aim is to reduce social and economic inequalities through long-term sustainable changes in structural conditions.
