German and Polish firefighters unite for 80th-anniversary celebrations and cultural exchange
A delegation of seven firefighters from Lehrte, Germany, recently visited Trzcianka, Poland, from May 9 to 11, 2023. The trip aimed to strengthen the partnership between the two fire departments, established in 2003. The visit coincided with the 80th anniversary of Trzcianka Fire Department, which was celebrated with a jubilee mass, formal ceremony, and family festival on Sunday.
The German team, led by former deputy city fire chiefs Marco-Michael Beimes and Axel Siemon, introduced their Polish hosts to German Maypole traditions during the first night's festivities. They erected a maypole, a symbol of spring and renewal, as part of the celebrations.
The visit also included an exchange of experiences and plans for a return visit by Trzcianka firefighters to Lehrte for the Interschutz event in June 2026. The Polish fire department from Oświęcim has already registered for this event. Additionally, the group explored the Drage River by kayak, unintentionally testing the river's chilly waters and facing challenges along the way.
The visit by the Lehrte firefighters to Trzcianka was a successful endeavor in fostering international cooperation and cultural exchange. Both fire departments look forward to welcoming each other again in the future, with Trzcianka planning to attend the Interschutz event in Lehrte in 2026.
