German business leaders demand Labour Minister retract ‘fighting employers’ remarks
Federal Labour Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) is facing growing criticism over her recent comments about 'fighting employers'. Now, 15 industry leaders have signed an open letter demanding she clarify her remarks. The signatories argue her words undermine trust and misrepresent millions of self-employed professionals and their workers.
The open letter, addressed directly to Bas, was signed by heads of industry associations across various sectors. Among them are representatives of small and medium-sized business groups, employer organizations, and homeowners’ associations. Their concern centers on the minister’s phrasing, which they claim contradicts the principles of the social market economy and respectful public dialogue.
The dispute highlights tensions between the government and business groups over labour policy rhetoric. Bas has yet to respond directly to the letter’s demands. For now, the call for clarification leaves her remarks—and their potential impact on employer relations—unresolved.
