German Community in Kyrgyzstan Celebrates Heritage, Elects New Leadership
The 13th Congress of the German People’s Council of the Kyrgyz Republic recently took place in Bishkek, bringing together delegates from across Kyrgyzstan. The event celebrated the German community's cultural heritage and elected Walerij Dil as chairman, alongside Artur Schessler and Sergej Franz as deputies.
The congress opened with speeches highlighting the German community's role in preserving culture and language, and their successful integration of Kyrgyz and German identities. Walerij Dil, the outgoing chairman, presented an accountability report showcasing initiatives since the last congress in 2022, including strengthening youth organizations and renovating community centers.
Following the official proceedings, the 'Deutsche Sloboda' festival began. This lively cultural event featured traditional costumes, crafting of Volga German cloth dolls, and the baking and enjoyment of Krebli, a traditional pastry. The congress was held at Steinbräu, a restaurant styled after a German brewery, providing a fitting stage for the gathering. Delegates traveled from major cities, mountain valleys, and villages with deep German roots to participate.
The re-election of Walerij Dil as chairman, along with Artur Schessler and Sergej Franz as deputies, was seen as an affirmation of stability and reliability within the German community. The congress not only celebrated their cultural heritage but also demonstrated their unity and commitment to preserving their cultural identity while integrating with Kyrgyz society.
