Court: Network Campact Allowed to Call Dairy Entrepreneur Müller AfD Supporter - German court allows activist group to label dairy tycoon as far-right AfD supporter
A Hamburg court has ruled in favour of activist group Campact in a dispute with dairy entrepreneur Theo Müller. The decision allows the organisation to continue labelling Müller as a supporter of the far-right AfD party on posters and stickers. The ruling marks the end of Müller's legal attempt to block the campaign.
The Hamburg Regional Court dismissed Müller's request for an interim injunction, stating that Campact's claim fell under permissible free expression. Judges argued that the term 'supporter' did not require active membership or public endorsement. Instead, they ruled that an 'internally non-rejecting attitude' towards the AfD was enough to justify the label.
The court pointed to a past interview where Müller failed to clearly distance himself from the party. This, combined with Campact's satirical approach, strengthened their case. The judges concluded that the campaign did not violate Müller's general personality rights.
Following the verdict, Müller accepted the outcome as part of the rule of law. He announced no further legal action and stated he would focus on his business. Meanwhile, Campact has already distributed 28,000 posters across 14 major cities and printed over two million stickers for Müller's products.
Campact welcomed the ruling and confirmed plans to expand its public awareness efforts. The group intends to increase visibility around Müller's perceived ties to the AfD in the coming weeks.
The court's decision allows Campact to continue its campaign without restriction. Müller's legal challenge has ended, leaving the activist group free to distribute materials linking him to the AfD. The ruling also sets a precedent for how political criticism and free expression are balanced in similar cases.
