German customs seize 86 kg of marijuana in Stralsund drug bust
Customs officers in Stralsund have seized more than 86 kilograms of marijuana over the past two weeks. The drugs were hidden in moving boxes, wooden crates, and plastic containers. Two suspects were arrested while attempting to pick up their shipments and remain in pretrial detention.
The operation began when officers intercepted multiple parcels containing marijuana. Some of the packages were disguised as household items to avoid detection. Authorities then set up a controlled delivery, leading to the arrest of two individuals as they tried to collect the shipments.
Tax evasion proceedings have now been launched against both the senders and recipients of the drugs. All confiscated marijuana remains in custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Hamburg Customs Investigation Office, based in Rostock, has since taken charge of further inquiries. No updates have been provided on whether the recent Konsumcannabisgesetz (effective April 1, 2024) has altered investigations into postal cannabis trafficking.
The two suspects remain detained while the investigation continues. The seized marijuana will not be returned, and tax evasion cases are moving forward. Customs officials have not yet commented on broader trends in postal drug trafficking since the new law took effect.
