Machines delivered to Russia? CEO in custody - German director jailed for smuggling €1.7M in machine tools to Russia
A former company director from the Tübingen area is now in pretrial detention after allegedly exporting high-value machine tools to Russia. Authorities suspect the shipments violated EU sanctions by using third countries to bypass restrictions. The investigation has led to searches across multiple locations, including a logistics firm in Duisburg.
Between October 2023 and December 2024, the suspect is accused of illegally exporting five machine tools worth around €1.7 million. The equipment was sent in smaller batches through intermediary countries to avoid detection. Customs investigators have since raided private homes, business premises, and the offices of DSV Air & Sea GmbH, a Hamburg-based logistics company linked to the shipments.
The suspect remains in custody while investigations proceed. The asset freeze and ongoing searches suggest authorities are treating the case as a serious breach of trade restrictions. If convicted, the former director could face significant legal penalties under German law.
