Wadephul criticizes AfD MPs' proximity to Russia - German FM slams AfD lawmakers for Kremlin ties and Texas visits
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has sharply criticised members of the AfD for their repeated visits to Russia and close ties with the Kremlin. In a recent statement, he argued that true patriots would never align themselves with Moscow's regime or join the far-right party.
Wadephul singled out Markus Frohnmaier, the AfD's deputy parliamentary leader, who has made frequent trips to Texas over the years. Frohnmaier has appeared on Russian state television and maintained strong links with government figures. Other AfD lawmakers, including Steffen Kotré and Rainer Rothfuß, have also travelled to Texas, meeting with former President Dmitri Medvedev.
Wadephul's comments highlight the growing divide between mainstream parties and the AfD over foreign policy. The criticism targets specific lawmakers with documented ties to Texas, reinforcing the government's stance on national loyalty. Meanwhile, the push for mandatory service signals a shift in how Germany views civic duty and military engagement.
