German investigative series Klar returns in 2026 with expanded format and controversy
Public broadcasters NDR and BR will air six episodes of the investigative series Klar in 2026. The programme aims to explore major controversies and document societal failures. However, recent changes to its hosting lineup have already sparked debate.
The series first appeared in 2025 with three pilot episodes. These covered migration, farmers' frustrations, and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. For 2026, NDR and BR have expanded the format to six instalments.
The first episode, titled *'Target: Police – Abuse, Hate, and Violence'*, will air on April 15. It will be presented by Tanit Koch, former editor-in-chief of *Bild*, and produced by NDR. The broadcaster's decision to replace Julia Ruhs with Koch led to accusations of 'cancel culture' from some critics. The second episode follows on April 29, hosted by Ruhs and produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk. Both episodes will be released early on ARD Mediathek and the YouTube channels *NDR Doku* and *BR24*. Since its announcement, *Klar* has faced criticism for allegedly pandering to right-wing populism. The series continues to draw attention as it prepares for its 2026 run.
The first two episodes of Klar will premiere in April 2026, each with different presenters. NDR's choice of Koch and the programme's focus on divisive topics have already generated discussion. All six episodes will be available across ARD's digital platforms and traditional broadcasts.
