German man arrested at Halle station over unpaid 2025 fraud fine
A 59-year-old German man was arrested at Halle (Saale) Central Station on Sunday evening. Federal Police officers detained him at 5:25 p.m. after discovering an outstanding warrant in his name.
The arrest warrant had been issued earlier in February 2026 by the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office. Authorities had been searching for the man, whose whereabouts were previously unknown.
The man was convicted in June 2025 by Dresden District Court for fraudulently obtaining services. He received a €375 fine or, as an alternative, a 25-day custodial sentence. Since he could not pay the required €360 to avoid custody, officers transferred him to a correctional facility. After the arrest, Federal Police notified the issuing authority that the warrant had been executed. The man will now serve a 12-day sentence.
The case stems from a 2025 conviction for service fraud. The man's inability to pay the fine led to his immediate detention. He remains in custody to complete his sentence.
