Unknowns Slash Tires of Local Politician in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - German mayoral candidate's tires slashed in suspected political intimidation

A local politico in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has become the target of a suspected deliberate attack. Karsten Berndt, an independent candidate for mayor, discovered his car's tires slashed on Thursday evening in Ueckermünde. Police are now investigating the incident as a possible case of political intimidation.

The 60-year-old's private vehicle was found with two damaged tires outside his home. Berndt immediately reported the incident, prompting authorities to open a case for dangerous interference with road traffic and property damage.

While such attacks on politicians remain rare, officers have not ruled out a political motive. Investigators are reviewing security footage and appealing for witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity near the scene.

So far, no other cases of tire-slashing targeting political figures have been recorded in Germany this year. Police have yet to identify any suspects or establish a clear connection to Berndt's mayoral campaign.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine whether the attack was politically driven. Berndt's campaign has not commented on how the incident might affect his run for office. Police urge anyone with information to come forward to assist the inquiry.
