German Official Proposes Dual Role to Streamline Coordination
Florian Steininger, a prominent figure in the German federal government, has suggested a dual role for himself. The move, motivated by practical reasons, aims to improve coordination and access to his colleague Andreas Babler's email calendar. Steininger, whose specific role within the government is unspecified, is recognized for identifying a budget amendment error by former Minister of Finance Gernot Blümel in 2020.
Steininger's workday is mainly dedicated to coordination tasks, taking up around 80% of his time. The remaining 20% is split between sports and office organization. He shares an office on the eighth floor of the federal building with Sports State Secretary Michaela Schmidt and Vice-Chancellor Andreas Babler. Steininger's role as a 'technical coordinator' involves pre-filtering legislative proposals alongside Johanna Resch and Fahrudin Ramic, reducing them to key political decisions.
Steininger's career includes serving as deputy club director of the SPO in the National Council and coordinating during coalition negotiations. Currently, he leads Schmidt's office and acts as Babler's deputy cabinet chief. Notably, Steininger has taken parental leave twice, spending approximately six months each time caring for his children, aged 12 and 10. He believes this decision positively influenced his relationship with them.
Steininger's proposed dual role aims to enhance coordination and access within the government. His commitment to family life, as demonstrated by his parental leave, and his professional background make him a significant figure in the German federal government.
