Schweitzer finds some pension debates cynical - German pension debate turns bitter as CDU factions clash over reforms

Alexander Schweitzer, Minister-President of Rhineland-Palatinate, has criticized the tone of Germany’s pension debates as overly harsh and divisive. He warned against framing the issue as a battle between generations, arguing that such an approach has never solved national problems. His comments come amid growing tensions within the CDU over proposed pension reforms.

Schweitzer accused parts of the CDU of abandoning serious policy discussions in favor of internal power struggles. He called on the party to settle its pension disputes quickly, stressing that loyalty to factions had overshadowed meaningful discussions.

The pension reform debate remains deadlocked between CDU factions. The leadership insists on pushing through the current plan, while critics demand a more balanced discussion. Schweitzer’s warnings highlight the risk of deepening divisions unless a compromise is reached soon.
