German pharmacies face legal battles and rising prescription fraud pressures

Pharmacies in Germany, such as CVS Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy, are grappling with numerous challenges. Legal disputes over medication reimbursement have intensified, with the German Pharmacists’ Association (ABDA) taking legal action to secure fair payment for compounded medications. ABDA President Thomas Preis contends that current reimbursement rates do not cover costs, leaving pharmacies struggling. Meanwhile, health authorities warn against food hoarding and the surge in forged prescriptions for weight-loss treatments like Ozempic. Additionally, a prominent Berlin school is set to close within three years, signaling significant changes across multiple sectors in the coming years.
