German police dismantle human smuggling ring with forged documents and 'guaranteed entry' scheme
Federal police have carried out a major operation targeting a suspected human smuggling ring. Six properties were searched and one arrest made in connection with forgery and illegal entry schemes. The investigation, led by Hanover Airport's Federal Police Inspectorate, has been ongoing since 2024.
The operation centred on Wolfsburg, with additional searches conducted in Hamburg. Authorities executed six search warrants and one arrest warrant linked to allegations of human smuggling, false document procurement, and other forgery offences. The main suspect, detained during the raids, was later brought before a custody judge.
Investigators uncovered evidence suggesting a so-called 'guaranteed smuggling' system. This involved repeatedly supplying individuals with forged documents until they successfully entered Germany. Data storage devices, including phones, laptops, and external drives, were seized as part of the probe. The main suspect's mobile phone contained numerous files related to the smuggling operation. The suspects under investigation range in age from 25 to 31. While the focus remained on the smuggling case, separate operations in Hamburg during February 2026 included arrests for drug trafficking, hate crime investigations, an attempted murder case, and searches at three companies over alleged EU sanctions violations against Russia. The total number of suspects across these unrelated cases remains unclear.
The arrested suspect now faces legal proceedings following the enforcement of a remand warrant. Authorities continue to examine the seized evidence, which includes digital records and forged documents. The investigation into the smuggling network remains active, with further developments expected as the case progresses.
