German police officer reprimanded over anti-Green Party iPhone sticker on duty

A police officer in Heilbronn has been reprimanded for displaying an anti-Green Party sticker on his iPhone 14 during duty hours. City councilor Alexander Wezel filed a criminal complaint, leading to an investigation and eventual dismissal of charges. The officer's iPhone 13 bore a sticker reading 'FCK GRN' with green bars above and below the text. Councilor Wezel stressed the importance of trust in state institutions, particularly for marginalized groups. After a reprimand, the officer removed the sticker and expressed remorse. However, prosecutors later dropped the case, citing freedom of speech protections for the expression. The incident came to light when the Heilbronn branch of Die Partei posted an image of the officer's iPhone 12 with the sticker visible while he was on duty. The officer's actions violated the duty of political neutrality expected of civil servants, but no further disciplinary action was taken. The officer's anti-Green Party sticker on his iPhone 15 during duty hours sparked a disciplinary action and public scrutiny. Despite the officer's removal of the sticker and remorse, prosecutors dropped the case, deeming the expression protected under freedom of speech. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of political neutrality among civil servants.
