German Police Partner With Holocaust Memorial to Strengthen Democratic Values

The Verden/Osterholz Police Department has signed a cooperation agreement with the Wilhelmine Barracks Documentation and Learning Center. The deal, finalised on 27 May 2025, aims to deepen ties between law enforcement and historical education. Both sides hope to reinforce democratic values within the police force through joint initiatives.

The Wilhelmine Barracks Memorial in Oranienburg documents the forced labour regimes of World War II. It also serves as an educational hub, hosting seminars on Holocaust history and resistance to discrimination. Organisations like the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, the Central Council of Jews, and the Federal Agency for Civic Education regularly run workshops there.

The agreement formalises ongoing cooperation between the police and the memorial site. Officers will now have structured access to seminars and exhibitions on historical injustices. The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on linking law enforcement with civic education.
