German Politician Martin Plum Explores Nursery Industry Challenges Firsthand
Baum & Bonheur, a historic nursery founded in 1895, recently hosted a visit from Dr. Martin Plum, a member of the German Bundestag. The trip was part of the 'Hands-On Politics' initiative, organized by the Federal Association of Service Industries (BDWi). During his time there, Plum took part in practical work and discussed pressing industry issues with company leaders.
The nursery, now owned by the Lappen family since 2021, specializes in avenue trees, ornamental shrubs, and fruit trees. Across 660 hectares in Germany, the Netherlands, and France, its 140 skilled employees cultivate over 250,000 plants annually.
The visit highlighted the daily challenges faced by nurseries like Baum & Bonheur. By engaging directly with industry professionals, Plum gained firsthand insight into the operational and regulatory pressures shaping the sector. The discussions may inform future policy considerations for the horticulture and service industries.
