German Railway to Transform S-Bahn Station Köpenick into Combined S & Regional Station by 2027

The German railway company will commence renovating the S-Bahn station Köpenick this spring, transforming it into a combined S and regional station. The project, set to conclude in 2027, will bring significant changes to the area, including new entrances, platforms, and pedestrian routes.

The renovation will see the creation of a breaking news regional train platform, 220 meters in length and covered for 150 meters. This platform will be accessible via two staircases and an elevator from the entrance building, which will be widened towards the Elcknerplatz. Supporting structures and noise protection walls will also be constructed.

The driveway of the railway bridge over the Bahnhofstraße will be expanded, but no additional traffic lanes will be created. The tram stops under the new bridge will remain in front of the Forum Köpenick, as the relocation is not possible.

An additional western entrance is planned, with passengers crossing over the Bahnhofstraße via a new pedestrian bridge. On the eastern side, a new pedestrian underpass with stairs to the S and regional train platform will be created at the Stellingdamm.

The first impacts on road traffic are expected in March, with planned closures of Bahnhofstraße and Hammerlingstraße. Residents can anticipate a challenging project in the coming years, with multiple construction sites running simultaneously and affecting S3 and RE1 traffic.

The renovation of S-Bahn station Köpenick into a combined S and regional station will bring improved infrastructure and connectivity. However, residents should prepare for temporary inconveniences due to the extensive news scheduled over the next five years.
