German school turns flag vandalism into a vibrant frog art project

BAD BERGZABERN. A staircase painted in Germany's black, red, and gold colors at a primary school in Rhineland-Palatinate has sparked controversy. School administrators dismissed the national colors as "defacement" and are having students paint over them as part of a project. Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses. Authorities reported that the vandalism caused roughly €1,000 in damages.

According to reports, unknown individuals had previously painted the stairway in the country's flag colors. Rather than simply removing the paint, the school principal decided to turn the incident into an art initiative.

From National Colors to a Frog

Multiple classes are now involved in redesigning the staircase, creating a large frog motif that completely covers the original flag. The goal, they said, was to produce something "wonderfully beautiful."

The case echoes events in Arnsberg (as previously reported). There, too, unknown perpetrators had painted over a rainbow-colored staircase with Germany's national colors. The city filed a criminal complaint, and politicians reacted with outrage, condemning the act as an attack on diversity and social cohesion.
