German SMEs get extra time to settle €63B in pandemic aid claims

Small and medium-sized businesses in Germany have been granted more time to submit their final accounts for corona aid. The SPD parliamentary group secured an extension until 30 September 2024, providing relief for businesses still recovering from the pandemic's impact. Between June 2020 and June 2022, over €63 billion in federal funds was allocated to support companies and freelancers facing major revenue losses, including bridge assistance, November aid, and December aid programmes. The extended deadline and simplified procedures mean businesses can avoid immediate repayments of aid and interest charges, and auditors have more flexibility in reviewing claims. Final settlements must now be completed by the new cut-off date of 30 September 2024.
