German Startup Tower Raises $6.4M to Revolutionize Python Data Pipelines

A new German startup called Tower has raised $6.4 million to simplify how teams run Python data pipelines. Founded in late 2024 by former Snowflake engineers Serhii Sokolenko and Brad Heller, the company aims to remove the complexity of managing infrastructure for AI-driven applications. Their platform lets developers focus on writing code instead of handling servers or configurations.

Sokolenko and Heller first met while working together at Snowflake. Before that, Sokolenko had held engineering roles at Microsoft, AWS, Google, and Databricks, while Heller co-founded Reflect Technologies, a company later acquired by Puppet in 2018. Their combined experience in large-scale data systems shaped Tower's approach.

Tower's platform allows developers to execute Python workloads using just a simple configuration file. The system handles the underlying infrastructure automatically, so teams avoid the hassle of setting up or maintaining servers. It also integrates with popular coding assistants, keeping the entire development and feedback process within the same environment. The startup positions itself as a middle ground between two extremes: building data infrastructure from scratch or committing to a costly, all-in-one platform. Tower supports Apache Iceberg as its storage layer, enabling customers to store data in an open lakehouse format. This ensures compatibility with major analytics tools while avoiding vendor lock-in. Since its launch, Tower has scaled quickly. The platform now processes over 200,000 jobs each month, spread across roughly 30,000 applications. The fresh funding will help expand its capabilities and reach more development teams.

With $6.4 million in funding, Tower plans to grow its platform for production-grade Python data pipelines. The company's focus on simplicity and open standards aims to attract teams frustrated by complex infrastructure. Early adoption numbers suggest demand for tools that reduce operational overhead in AI and data workflows.
