Memory Gaps Complicate Investigation in Klette Trial - German Trial Revisits 2006 Armed Supermarket Heist Linked to Far-Left Militants
A trial is underway in Germany against Daniela Klette, accused of involvement in a 2006 armed supermarket robbery. Prosecutors claim she worked with two fugitive accomplices, Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, to steal €160,000 from a Bochum-Wattenscheid store. The case forms part of a wider investigation into a series of heists allegedly carried out to fund the Red Army Faction’s underground activities.
The robbery took place in December 2006, when masked and armed men stormed the supermarket’s cash and safe rooms. Employees were threatened as the gang made off with around €160,000. Garweg and Staub remain at large, with their current whereabouts unknown.
Klette’s trial continues as prosecutors build their case against her alleged role in the supermarket heist and other robberies. The proceedings will examine her connections to the Red Army Faction and the whereabouts of the missing accomplices. A verdict is not expected before the middle of next year.
