Over three million euros was allocated for Syrian returns by the end of August 2025. Meanwhile, 20,010 Syrians sought asylum in Germany since January 2025, with no deportations occurring during this period. The AfD's Stephan Brandner called for Syrians' return to their homeland.
By August 2025, 289 Syrians returned to Syria with local subsidies. In 2024, 83,185 Syrians gained German citizenship. The federal-state program REAG/GARP funded 1,872 Syrian departures. Despite 4,633 Syrians leaving Germany following Bashar al-Assad's fall, over 951,000 Syrians remained in Germany.
The BAMF supported 464 voluntary returns by May 2025. The government focused on specific groups like young, single men. NGOs like Grünhelme e.V. aided rebuilding efforts in Syria, assisting returnees. No public data beyond financially supported returnees is available until August 2025.
By August 2025, over 951,000 Syrians still lived in Germany. While 4,633 left following Assad's fall, only 289 returned to Syria with assistance. The government and NGOs supported returns and rebuilding, with more funding needed for comprehensive assistance.
