Germany and Kazakhstan unite on climate action and supply chain diversification

The German Water Partnership (GWP), under German leadership in Berlin, has been initiated to collaborate with Central Asia, promoting climate protection and environmental conservation. The organisation aims to assist the region in combating climate change and environmental degradation. Meanwhile, Germany and Kazakhstan have agreed to strengthen their partnership, with a focus on climate action, supply chain diversification, and enhanced dialogue on foreign and security policy.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz praised Kazakhstan's efforts to prevent sanctions evasion and implement countermeasures against Russia's actions in Ukraine. He also highlighted Kazakhstan's significance as Germany's most important trading partner in Central Asia. The two countries plan to deepen their bilateral cooperation, with a focus on the Middle Corridor logistics route, which connects Asia to Europe while bypassing Russia. This route is seen as a key avenue for expanding transport links between the two nations.

Germany is supporting Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, in building resilience against climate impacts through the Green Central Asia initiative. Scholz stated that Russia's war on Ukraine is a violation of international law and called for Putin to end the war. Both countries aim to strengthen trade relations and improve conditions for investment, with legal certainty being a key factor in achieving this.

The German Water Partnership, along with the deepened dialogue and cooperation between Germany and Kazakhstan, signals a commitment to addressing global challenges such as climate change and environmental protection. With a focus on supply chain diversification, enhanced trade relations, and improved investment conditions, both nations stand to benefit from this strengthened partnership.
