Germany has formed a new pensions commission to reform its retirement system by 2026. The 20-member group, led by former Federal Employment Agency chief Frank-Jürgen Weise, will begin work before the end of 2025. Its goal is to tackle key issues like the retirement age and expanding the pool of contributors.

The commission will draft recommendations for a full overhaul of the country’s pension system. Its proposals are due by mid-2026, covering changes to eligibility, funding, and sustainability. Weise will share leadership as one of two co-chairs.

The commission’s findings will shape future pension policies in Germany. Its recommendations, expected by mid-2026, could lead to adjustments in retirement ages and contribution rules. The government has yet to release the full list of participating experts.
