Germany Orders 123 Advanced Leopard 2A8 Tanks to Boost Military Power

Germany is fortifying its military might with a significant order of 123 Leopard 2A8 tanks. This includes 18 to replace those sent to Ukraine and 105 for the upcoming 'Lithuania Brigade'. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius is overseeing this procurement.

The Leopard 2A8 boasts advanced features such as a fully digital fire control system, a cooled thermal imaging camera, and a laser rangefinder for precise targeting. It also packs a powerful 120-millimeter smoothbore cannon, enabling accurate shooting even while on the move. The tank's 8 kW air conditioning system ensures soldiers' comfort and concentration.

Germany is not alone in its interest in these tanks. Lithuania has ordered 44 Leopard 2A8s, and the Czech Republic's armed forces have also placed an order. The first of these tanks are expected to arrive in Germany by the end of 2025, with deliveries for Lithuania and the Czech Republic following from late 2025 to mid-2026.

In addition to these orders, the German government is planning a substantial investment in tank divisions. This includes up to 1000 new Leopard 2 tanks and up to 2500 wheeled GTK Boxer armored vehicles for new divisions within NATO. The Leopard 2A8 will also come equipped with an active protection system called Trophy, defending against anti-tank grenades and kamikaze drones. The tank's 360-degree sensors and high-tech all-around vision provide the crew with complete situational awareness.

Germany's acquisition of 123 Leopard 2A8 tanks, along with its planned investment in tank divisions, demonstrates a significant commitment to strengthening its military capabilities and those of its NATO allies. The advanced features of the Leopard 2A8, including its digital fire control system and active protection, will enhance the German and allied forces' effectiveness on the battlefield.
