Germany to screen 340,000 young men for military fitness in 2026
Germany is preparing to assess the military fitness of all men born in 2008, totalling around 340,000 individuals. Among them, nearly 56,700 hold at least one additional passport, raising questions about security and loyalty during the conscription process.
The German Defence Ministry has stressed that all conscripts, regardless of dual citizenship, must demonstrate loyalty to the Federal Republic. Soldiers in the Bundeswehr share the same rights and obligations, with no exceptions made for those holding multiple passports.
The assessment process will begin in 2026, with authorities closely monitoring potential risks tied to dual citizenship. Those called up must uphold their duty of loyalty to Germany, while officials weigh security concerns—particularly for individuals with ties to Russia.
