Germany Urged to Prioritize Energy Security with Strategic Partnerships
Germany's energy security is a pressing concern. The new government must prioritize this as a strategic goal to ensure a stable, long-term energy supply. Current approaches are insufficient, and one-sided dependence on energy imports leaves Germany vulnerable.
To minimize market risks and ensure energy price stability, flexible and competitive contract models with strategic partners are crucial. Long-term energy supply contracts are essential for securing natural gas supplies.
The study recommends the strategic further development of energy partnerships. This includes building resilient energy supply chains and diversifying energy sources. Initially, countries like Namibia were considered for large-scale green hydrogen production. However, RWE's withdrawal from a project there may shift Germany's focus to other partner countries involved in bilateral climate and energy partnerships, which span a network of 33 countries worldwide.
The coordinating and marketing function of H2Global should be transferred to private market actors. This will help ensure a reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy supply for Germany.
Germany must establish long-term energy security on a stable basis. This requires prioritizing energy security, developing energy partnerships, and ensuring diversified and crisis-resistant energy supply. The new government should act on these recommendations to secure Germany's energy future.
