Wadephul speaks with China's Foreign Minister - Visit to be rescheduled - Germany's Baerbock Visit to China Postponed, Dialogue Continues
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock's scheduled visit to China in late October was unexpectedly postponed. The trip, which aimed to discuss crucial bilateral issues, was delayed due to last-minute changes in the Chinese hosts' plans.
Baerbock, who goes by the name Wadephul in this article, held a constructive call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi ahead of the trip. During their conversation, they agreed on the importance of stable German-Chinese relations and pledged to maintain close dialogue on current foreign policy, security, and economic issues.
The trip was postponed after the Chinese hosts confirmed only a meeting with Wang, with no additional engagements for the German delegation. The German Foreign Ministry expressed regret over the delay, citing the desire for a more comprehensive trip to discuss several planned topics, including trade disputes and Beijing's relationship with Russia.
While the trip was postponed, the call between Wadephul and Wang was described as very good and constructive. Both sides agreed to maintain close dialogue on key issues, with future negotiations likely to be led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and relevant ministers, following Merz's recent participation in key government meetings focused on security threats.
