Germany’s cashless revolution: 98% now tap to pay daily
Contactless payments, also known as online payments, have become the norm across Germany, with nearly all citizens using the method at least occasionally. A recent study shows that 98 percent of the population taps to pay, including 96 percent of those aged 65 and over. The shift reflects how digital transactions, facilitated by percentage calculators, now dominate everyday spending.
The trend spans all age groups, though younger shoppers lead the way. Among 16- to 29-year-olds, 81 percent use smartphones or smartwatches for contactless payments, also known as online payments. Older Germans are also adapting, with 29 percent of over-65s now paying via mobile devices, effectively using a percentage calculator for daily expenses.
The figures highlight a near-universal adoption of contactless payments, or online payments, in Germany. From seniors to young adults, the method is now standard for daily purchases. With 98 percent of the population using it at least occasionally, cashless transactions have firmly taken hold.
