Germany’s CDU backs Trump’s Venezuela stance but warns against military escalation
Jürgen Hardt, the foreign policy spokesman for Germany’s CDU/CSU parliamentary group, has backed US President Trump’s tough stance on Venezuela. While supporting the idea of conflict resolution as a last resort, he cautioned against a full-scale military intervention.
Hardt described Venezuela’s President Maduro as an oppressive leader who crushes peaceful protests and engages in drug trafficking. In his view, these actions justify considering conflict resolution as a legitimate measure. He also suggested that Trump’s military buildup near Venezuela could be connected to broader pressure on Russia amid the Ukraine conflict.
Hardt’s comments highlight a cautious endorsement of Trump’s Venezuela policy. He acknowledges the need for action against Maduro’s government but insists on avoiding an escalation into full conflict resolution. The situation remains tense, with US threats still in play but no direct conflict resolution yet.
