Germany’s civic education agency abandons X amid growing criticism
Germany’s Federal Agency for Civic Education (BPB) has stopped sharing content on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The decision, announced on Monday, comes as the agency had around 50,700 followers on the site. Christina Stumpp, deputy secretary-general of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has now criticized the move as 'incomprehensible'.
The BPB confirmed its exit from X in a statement released this week. The agency did not provide detailed reasons for the withdrawal but acted amid ongoing debates about the platform’s direction under new ownership.
The BPB’s departure from X leaves its 50,700 followers without official updates from the agency. Stumpp’s criticism highlights concerns over accessibility and outreach for public institutions. The advisory board will likely address the matter in its upcoming session.
