Germany’s ePA system suffers second major outage in two days

The electronic patient record (ePA) system faced another disruption today, marking the second outage in two days. This time, policyholders with seven major insurers—including BKK, IKK, and Allianz—were temporarily unable to access their digital health records. The issue was resolved by mid-morning, but not before causing widespread inconvenience.

Yesterday, the ePA system failed for users insured with AOK, Barmer, and TK. The problem persisted long enough to draw attention, though services were eventually restored.

Services returned to normal after the morning’s disruption, with no lasting impact on patient data. However, the back-to-back outages highlight ongoing challenges in maintaining stable access to digital health records. Bitmarck and gematik GmbH have yet to provide further details on preventive measures for future incidents.
