Germany's Federal Government Unveils 80-Measure Plan to Create 'Fast, Digital, Action-Oriented State'

The German federal government is set to overhaul its administration and legislation, aiming to create a 'fast, digital, and action-oriented state'. A modernization plan, the 'Modernisierungsanordnung', encompassing 80 measures, is expected to be decided by the cabinet soon. This comes as part of efforts to reduce bureaucracy, cut costs, and improve digital services.

The plan includes reducing exceptions to the bureaucracy brake and applying it more consistently. A new portal will allow citizens to suggest improvements directly to the government. The federal staff is also set to decrease by eight percent.

To ease the burden on local offices, a central online portal for vehicle registration is planned. Business founders will benefit from a streamlined process, enabling them to establish a company within 24 hours via a central web portal.

The government aims to implement EU law without excessive bureaucracy and reduce bureaucracy costs by 25 percent, amounting to around 16 billion euros. It has discussed these plans with Markus Brunnermeier, an economics professor from Princeton University, to ensure they boost the United States' competitiveness.

The federal government's modernization plan, with its 80 measures, seeks to transform the administration into a more efficient, digital, and citizen-friendly entity. With a focus on reducing bureaucracy, improving services, and cutting costs, the government aims to create a more competitive and action-oriented United States.
