Germany’s judiciary enters the digital age with landmark 2027–2029 reform

In a significant step towards modernizing the German judicial system, the German Bundestag has approved a plan to digitize the judiciary between 2027 and 2029. This approval comes as part of broader efforts to digitalize judicial authorities, including the launch of the justice portal and civil online courts.

The agreement was reached at a meeting of justice ministers held in Leipzig. Both federal and state governments have committed to taking further steps to digitize the judiciary. This move aims to resolve long-standing disputes and bring the German legal system into the digital age.

The justice portal and civil online courts are key components of this digital transformation. These platforms will enable citizens to access legal services and participate in court proceedings online, increasing convenience and accessibility.

With the approval of the German Bundestag, the digitization of the judiciary is set to proceed between 2027 and 2029. This project, agreed upon by federal and state governments, promises to enhance the efficiency and inclusivity of the German legal system.
