So far, 23 cannabis clubs have been approved - Germany’s Legal Cannabis Clubs Face Location Hurdles in Saxony
Germany has legalized cannabis nationwide since April 1, 2024, leading to the establishment of cannabis clubs. In Saxony, 23 clubs have been licensed, but finding suitable locations has been a challenge, delaying operations.
The Cannabis Act outlines regulations for growing operations. Despite the licensing of 23 clubs in Saxony, only one managed to harvest cannabis in 2024, producing around 680 grams. This slow start is primarily due to difficulties in finding locations that meet legal requirements. Germany permits communal cultivation and distribution to club members, but the struggle to secure suitable sites has hindered progress.
The Saxony State Directorate has licensed these clubs, but specific details, including names, remain undisclosed. The delay in operation commencement is mainly due to the challenges faced in locating appropriate facilities.
As of summer 2024, 23 cannabis clubs have been licensed in Saxony. However, the slow progress in cannabis cultivation and distribution is largely due to the struggle in finding suitable locations that comply with legal requirements. Despite these challenges, the legalization of cannabis consumption in Germany continues, with communal cultivation and distribution permitted.
