Germany's top young builders compete in high-stakes skills showdown
Nineteen young competitors gathered in Willingen for the final round of a national construction industry skills contest. The event, organised by VDBUM alongside partners Michael Scholz and Yann Eisenbarth, aimed to showcase emerging talent in the sector. Awards were presented to the top three performers at a gala evening ceremony.
The competition began with eight preliminary rounds held across Germany. From these, 24 finalists were selected to take part in the final stage. The event was supported by Acreos, which provided construction machinery simulators for the practical challenges.
Stefan Schumski and Verena Windhorst from the VDBUM team oversaw the organisation of the championships. Their efforts ensured the event ran smoothly, highlighting the importance of vocational training in construction. In the final standings, Tim Schmittgal from Schneider GmbH & Co. KG secured second place. Dean Gründel of Landschaftsgestaltung–Straßen, Tief- und Wasserbau GmbH took third. The competition also served as a platform to encourage young people to consider careers in the construction industry.
The awards recognised the skills of the participants while promoting the value of hands-on training. With 19 finalists competing in Willingen, the event reinforced the sector's commitment to nurturing new talent. Organisers plan to continue the initiative in future years.
