Honey, Care, Building: What the Bundesrat has decided - Germany's Upcoming Changes: Care Assistant Training, Honey Labeling, and Bundesrat Leadership Shift

Germany is set to introduce several changes in the coming months, including a nationwide training program for care assistants, new labeling rules for honey, and a shift in leadership at the Bundesrat. These updates aim to improve various aspects of society and the economy.

Starting in early 2027, an 18-month training program for care assistants will be launched nationwide. This initiative includes a fixed training allowance and easier recognition of foreign qualifications. Meanwhile, from June 14, 2026, honey labels and jars will need to list all countries of origin if multiple, with their respective percentages in descending order.

The Bundesrat has warned of significant revenue losses due to planned tax relief for commuters and the catering industry. Estimated losses are around 13.6 billion euros from 2026 to 2030. On a positive note, efforts are being made to create more affordable housing by the end of 2030, with plans for faster approvals and waiving building plans.

In political news, Bremen's mayor and senate president Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD) will succeed Anke Rehlinger (SPD) as the new President of the German Bundesrat on November 1, 2025. Additionally, Baden-Württemberg has proposed an initiative to stabilize fuel prices, including a price cap similar to Austria's.

These changes, ranging from improvements in care assistant training to new labeling rules and leadership shifts, reflect Germany's ongoing efforts to enhance various aspects of its society and economy. The impact of these changes will be closely monitored in the coming years.
