Germany’s Volkstrauertag Honors Fallen with Calls for Peace and Reconciliation
Around 100 people gathered in Richrath today for the annual Volkstrauertag ceremony. The event marked Germany’s National Day of Mourning, with a focus on remembrance and peace. This year’s theme was 'Reconciliation over the Graves—Working for Peace'.
The ceremony was organised by the Langenfeld branch of the German War Graves Commission. Dieter Braschoss, the branch’s chair, led the tributes to the fallen before the wreath-laying took place.
The ceremony brought together local residents, officials, and young voices in remembrance. The speeches and tributes underscored the ongoing importance of peace and reconciliation. This year’s event also served as a reminder of the responsibilities passed to younger generations.
