Youngest County Commissioner in the State Takes Up Work in Gifhorn - Germany’s youngest district administrator takes charge in Gifhorn at 34
Philipp Raulfs, aged 34, has taken over as the new district administrator of Gifhorn. His appointment follows the sudden death of his predecessor, Tobias Heilmann. Raulfs is now the youngest district administrator in Lower Saxony and one of the youngest in Germany.
Raulfs had already been serving as mayor of Hillerse since 2021. Before that, he worked as the SPD parliamentary group’s budget policy spokesperson in the state legislature, a role he held since 2017. His political experience spans both local and regional levels.
He replaces Klaus-Peter Schulze, who previously held the position before Heilmann. Raulfs has outlined clear priorities for his new role, focusing on economic growth, education, and improving civil and disaster preparedness.
With his appointment, Raulfs brings a mix of legislative and municipal experience to Gifhorn. His plans include strengthening the local economy, supporting schools, and ensuring better emergency response systems. The district now has one of the youngest leaders in the country at its helm.
