Ghana MCE accused of overseeing illegal mining and forest destruction
Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South, is facing serious accusations of involvement in illegal mining. A group of NDC youth, led by Mohammed Iddrisu, claims Boamah has overseen large-scale destruction of a forest reserve and polluted the River Offin through illicit activities. The allegations were formally reported to the Ghana Police Service on 21 November 2025.
The group alleges that Boamah used his position to enable illegal mining operations. They also claim he invoked the name of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia to shield his actions. Boamah has strongly denied the accusations, calling them baseless and driven by malice.
The case now hinges on the outcome of a formal probe. Boamah’s offer to step down if found guilty adds weight to calls for a thorough and transparent investigation. Meanwhile, public pressure continues to mount for action against illegal mining in the region.
