Ghanaian man convicted of treason freed on bail pending appeal
A man convicted of high treason in Ghana has been released on bail while appealing his death sentence. Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu, also known as Bright Alan Yeboah, was one of six people found guilty of attempting to overthrow the government. The High Court in Accra granted him temporary freedom under strict conditions last month.
The three-member High Court approved bail for Ofosu on Monday, November 10, 2025. His release came after he met the court’s demands, including a GH¢2.5 million bond and the surrender of his passport. Two sureties were also required as part of the conditions.
Ofosu’s release follows a court order allowing him to remain free while challenging his conviction. The bail terms included financial guarantees and travel restrictions. The outcome of his appeal will determine whether the original sentence stands.
