Ghana’s Francis-Xavier Sosu Elected New ECOWAS Caucus Chairman in APU
Francis-Xavier Sosu, MP for Madina, has been unanimously elected Chairman of the ECOWAS Caucus of the Africa Parliamentary Union (APU). The election took place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, during a caucus meeting in Uganda. Sosu previously held the role of Vice Chairman and now succeeds Mali’s Alioune Gueye, who led the group for the past two years.
Before the vote, Sosu addressed the APU Executive Committee, urging stronger collaboration across the continent on key issues. He highlighted youth unemployment, the green economic transition, and support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as priorities. His election reflects Ghana’s expanding influence in regional parliamentary networks.
The election marks a shift in leadership for the ECOWAS Caucus, with Sosu taking over from Gueye. His term will focus on policy reforms and regional cooperation. Ghana’s delegation, meanwhile, continues to play an active role in shaping parliamentary discussions across Africa.
