Ghana’s journalists trained to decode Auditor-General’s financial reports
A capacity-building workshop for journalists took place in Accra on Friday, November 21, 2025. The event aimed to improve media professionals’ ability to understand and report on the work of the Auditor-General. Four key organisations collaborated to deliver the training: the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Transparency International-Ghana, and the Ghana Audit Service.
The workshop addressed a recognised gap in newsrooms—limited expertise in investigative, data, and public financial management skills needed to interpret audit reports. Journalists attended sessions on the Auditor-General’s structure, mandate, and audit processes. They also learned how to extract newsworthy stories from audit findings and use the CitizensEye mobile application for reporting.
The workshop equipped journalists with tools to report more effectively on audit findings, particularly those related to finance. Organisers hope this will lead to better public understanding of financial oversight. The event marks part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency and governance in Ghana.
