Ghana’s Komenda Sugar Factory revival gains momentum under new leadership
The revival of Ghana's Komenda Sugar Factory is progressing under new leadership. Lawyer Kwame Owusu Sekyere, the Minister of Trade and Industry, now chairs the Interim Management Committee (IMC) overseeing the project management. His extended mandate aims to secure a sustainable future for the factory, aligning with the President's broader industrialisation goals.
The IMC was initially tasked with an eight-week assessment of the factory's operations. This included reviewing technical requirements, financial health, and the sugarcane supply chain. Due to the project's complexity, Sekyere's appointment was extended to allow deeper analysis and stakeholder engagement.
The extended mandate gives the IMC more time to refine its strategy. Sekyere's approach—rooted in consultation and legal precision—aims to ensure the factory's long-term success. The project remains a key test of Ghana's commitment to industrial growth and economic empowerment.
