Ghana’s President Demands Transparency from Newly Sworn-In Hajj Board
Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has issued stern warnings and directives to the newly appointed College Board. The board, chaired by Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, was sworn in on 15 November 2025, with six new members joining the nine-member team. President Mahama called for transparency and accountability in managing the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
Mahama warned officials and agents against illegal charges or extortion, stating that such actions are haram and will face severe legal consequences. He emphasised the importance of a smooth and incident-free College Board exercise.
The President called on the board to fully digitise operations to prevent illegal activities. He also instructed them to operate under clear guidelines and report periodically to the Office of the Chief of Staff. Mahama stated that this level of transparency would sustain public confidence and ensure future boards inherit reliable institutional memory.
