Giant manufacturing plant to be constructed by Woodward in South Carolina
Woodward Inc. Announces New Precision Manufacturing Facility in Greer, South Carolina
In a significant development, Woodward Inc., a global leader in energy control solutions for aerospace and industrial markets, has announced plans to build a precision manufacturing facility in Greer, South Carolina. The new facility, which is expected to become operational in 2027, will focus on the production of servo-hydraulic actuation systems and is anticipated to create approximately 275 high-quality jobs in manufacturing, engineering, and business operations.
The facility, which will be a showcase manufacturing site, similar to Woodward's Rock Cut campus, is set to be a major boost for the region. The company's investment of nearly $200 million in the development of the site is supported by a competitive incentive package from the State of South Carolina, Spartanburg County, and local economic development organizations.
The announcement comes at a time when the demand for Woodward's aerospace technologies is growing. The facility has the potential to expand capacity to meet this demand, particularly with initial production dedicated to producing spoiler actuation for the Airbus A350.
Meanwhile, in other aerospace news, Boeing has launched its new Engineering Center within the Cici & Hyatt Brown Center for Aerospace Technology at Embry‐Riddle Aeronautical University's Research Park. The new site is fully operational and reinforces Boeing's long-term investment in the region.
Elsewhere, Greater Manchester has been positioned as a UK hotspot for 3D printing adoption. This development is thanks to the efforts of Made Smarter and Manchester Metropolitan University's PrintCity, who have worked tirelessly to position Greater Manchester as a 3D printing innovation hub.
In another exciting development, Orbex, a leading space launch company, has successfully completed its first full simulation of the Prime vehicle launch. The successful simulation marks a key technical milestone for Orbex as it prepares to deliver orbital launch services from the UK next year.
These developments underscore the vibrant and dynamic state of the aerospace and manufacturing sectors, with companies investing heavily in innovation and growth. As these industries continue to evolve, we can expect to see more exciting announcements and advancements in the near future.
